 Colour Use and Double Weave

This is a workshop for anyone fascinated by double weave. The purpose of this workshop is to explore the relationship of colours to each other through the use of double weave. This weave structure allows a unique mixing of warp and weft threads. Polychrome colour schemes will show colour mixing with solid blocks, shaded and striped warps. Different colour harmonies will be used to illustrate the various pattern and colour relationships.

Each participant in this workshop will have a different double weave structure and colour harmony to show the versatility of this system. Drafts and colour orders for the warps will be sent to participants before the beginning of the course. A warp should be prepared and the loom dressed by the participants before the workshop. Either 4 or 8 shaft looms may be used. Not a round robin, no re-threading required. Longer workshop will cover more colour theory and allow more exploration of the warps on the other looms. A 2 - 5 day workshop for 12-20 participants

 Computer Aided Weaving Design
 with Fiberworks PCW4

Become familiar with weaving design using a computer. Simple drawdown to multishaft structures and free design will be explored. Automatic options, profile drafting, and colour use will be investigated.

Participants will explore and experiment the many options offered with this very versatile weaving design program. Simple drawdown, multishaft structures and free design will be explored in depth. Automatic options, block substitution, colour use, name drafts, and weave as drawn in will be covered. We will also look at advanced features such as transform, graphic file import and export and fabric analysis. Double weave, blended drafts, network drafting, printing options and loom control will also be investigated.

This workshop is designed for both the novice computer user and those familiar with Fiberworks PCW. The participants will increase their skills at designing with the many options offered FIBERWORKS PCW. Each participant should have access to computer running Windows 95,98 or NT. For the longer workshop a computer aided loom would be beneficial. This is a 2--5 day workshop, for 12 -18 people.

 Fabric Analysis of
 a Commercial Fabric

What do you do after you have bought your multishaft loom and learned to weave regular 8 shaft twills? Participants will be shown how to analyze a commercial fabric, and modify it to specific purpose. They will learn to adapt the draft, so that they can weave it on their loom, whether it has 8 or 24 shafts. Some of the possible variations of the originals will be explored. Come and find out how to get the most from the fabrics found in the closet and at the local fabric store.

Participants will need 8 or 10 point graph paper, pencil, free-standing magnifying glass and regular drafting supplies. A handwoven sample and a swatch of a commercial fabric will be supplied. More design variations will be covered in the longer workshop. A 1 or 2 day workshop for 15 intermediate and enthusiastic beginning multishaft weavers.

 Once you are Warped,
 What's Weft
 Designing your own Twill

This workshop is for the weaver who has just discovered that looms can have more than four shafts, the beginning complex weaver. The weaver will learn to design an original twill.

We will start with regular twills, go on to fancy and decorated twills, steep and flat twills, waffles and crepes. The participants will then be able to try these originals on a sample loom. An understanding of drafting and basic four shaft twills is recommended. Intermediate to advanced levels.

Drafts and colour orders for the warps will be sent to participants before the beginning of the course. A warp should be prepared and the loom dressed by the participants before the workshop. Eight or more shaft looms are required. Not a round robin, no rethreading required. More design variations and more weaving time will be allowed by the longer format. A 2 - 5 day workshop for 12 - 20 participants. A one day variation will cover theory only, no weaving in class time.

 Single Four Tied Weaves

What is the relationship between Samitum and Quigley? How does this all relate to supplementary warp on a twill ground? All these very different fabrics can be produced from one basic threading system. Share my exploration of these fascinating weaves, which formed the basis of my O.H.S. In-Depth-Study, Master Weaver.

This is a two to three day workshop, in which 10 to 15 participants will weave a variety of interpretations of this weave structure. A workshop for intermediate multishaft weavers. Drafts and colour orders for the warps will be sent to participants before the beginning of the course. A warp should be prepared and the loom dressed by the participants before the workshop. 8 or more shaft looms required. Not a round robin, no rethreading required.
